Counterfeit Detectors at a glance

There are currently millions of fake bills that circulate the world on a daily basis.

Do you know how to spot them?

The crime of counterfeiting is as old as our civilization. There is proof that in the Greco Roman era, before the times of Christ, counterfeit coins were already being fabricated. This is no myth or legend, samples of these Hellenic coins are on exhibit at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C.

Once you are decided to get a Counterfeit Detector, you have to ask yourself some basic questions.

Analyze whether you need a Manual or Automatic device.

You can clearly identify counterfeit detectors into two groups: manual and automatic. Those that need some kind of physical movement and analysis from the user in order to obtain a result are classified as manual. In contrast, automatic detectors analyze the banknotes instantly, as soon as the user places the bill on the feeding sensor. In seconds, a result will be shown.

There is a difference in price, time and action required from the user. These are the factors to analyze when deciding whether you need a manual or automatic detector. In average, manual devices are less expensive than automatic detectors. Most automatic detectors take approximately 1 (one) second to analyze the security features of the banknote and show a result (counterfeit or genuine). The action required from the user in the manual detector varies according to the security feature to be analyzed (i.e. when checking magnetic properties on the note, the user needs to rub the magnetic field of the bill against a magnetic head).

What level of security do you need?

Once you decide whether you need a manual or automatic detector you have to decide the level of security. The most security features the device check on the banknotes, the less probability to suffer a loss from counterfeits. Banknotes have several security features that can be checked to verify its authenticity, for example ultraviolet, magnetic and infrared.
